$340,000 funding for Sikh temple in Officer

Melbourne: Thanks to the great efforts of Federal MP for Latrobe- Jason Wood, a funding of 340,000 AUD for gurudwara in Officer has been announced.
This federal funding will be used for various projects like Kids language school, play area, organic farming, rain water harvesting for the Siri Guru Nanak Darbar’ located at 33 Officer Road, Officer.
Wood said that he would like to both applaud and convey his heartfelt thanks for the great community initiatives and interactions the Officer Sikh community was carrying in Latrobe. He mentioned of the Officer Sikh Community’s friendly collaborations with about 15 community organisations and their work for Australia Day, Bunyip fire relief, Harmony Day etc.
Many dignitaries attended the announcement which was made on Sunday and congratulated the entire community- Brad Battin, State MP Gembrook; Mayor Graeme Moore, Cardinia Shire Council; Mayor Amanda Stapledon, Casey Council; Cr Damien Rosario, Casey Council.
Wood said that his office had received a very professional proposal from the Officer temple for some community based, community focused and community-centred projects. He said he was confident that these projects will promote community bridges and social cohesion. About 665 petitions were received in support of this proposal.
The Sikh community had earlier promised to put in some more of their funds to build ownership of these creative projects. S. Jatinder Singh Uppal donated 170,000 AUD to these and other related projects, which implies that Officer Sikh community now has 510,000 AUD to spend on these community focused projects.
There was a big congregation who cheered the announcement with traditional Sikh slogans- Bole So Nihal. Officer Sikh Gurdwara has earlier received funding from Stronger Communities Program, Pick my Project of Victorian Government, Melbourne Water.
